What's Been Going On...

Well lately I'm kind of had a blogging schmogging attitude and haven't really felt like updating. There has been a lot going on in our lives and blogging was moved to the back of my mind. So....sorry for no updates and for not commenting. Also, my Christmas template is probably a little early, but I figured we are all thinking about Christmas now, so what the heck!

(this picture has nothing to do with the post, but I decided to add it anyway)

This last week we took a very last minute trip to Idaho for 5 days and had a lot of fun. Dave had to go for work so we made a trip out of it. Chels and Blake came over with the kids so my girls had a great time playing with their cousins. I was able to do a little birthday shopping with my mom, which was very needed. Since I rarely buy anything for myself, some retail therapy was well needed. Overall we had a great time and can't wait to go back in about a week for Thanksgiving.

I have also recently really gotten into coupon shopping. Now I have to admit that there was one point in my life that I said I would never cut coupons. I thought coupons were just for poor people or for those who have too much time on their hands....rude and ignorant....I know. Anyway, I decided that there is nothing wrong with saving some money so I thought I'd give it a try. At first I was pretty overwhelmed, but with help of some friends I found a couple helpful websites. My favorite is thegrocerygame.com because it pretty much tells me exactly what to do, but it also costs money to get their help. I know that a lot of people really like pinchingyourpennies.com also, and I am trying to familiarize myself with this one a little more because it is free. Anyway, it has been kind of fun and exciting to see the amount of money I am saving. The other day I went to Walgreens and my bill came to about $31 and my receipt told me that with my coupons and with in-store sales I had saved $50! Nothing like saving more than I am spending! It has been pretty fun and kind of a pain at the same time, but I'm glad that I am saving us some money.

So glad that you posted that picture even if it didn't have anything to do with your post because it is so cute. Love that they are both so happy in it! Good times at home---glad you were able to spend some time with your family.

It sounds like you had a nice little trip home. I have to say I am a coupon clipper from the newspaper and coupon.com. I have been doing it for about a year and a half now and it is very addicting. I have started moving the money I have saved in clipping coupons into our savings account. It adds up pretty fast. Good luck with yours and thanks for the websites, I haven't heard of those ones.

awesome! That's how I feel too. Kind of fun and kind of a pain. Sometimes I think, no, not this week...then I'll have a great trip where my sugar is 0.45, my ziplock bags are 0.25, my deoderant is 0.50 and I'm like, ok...I'll keep going! :)

Thanks for the website on coupons, I really need to start doing that too, and just get used to it! Glad you guys are doing well, I've kindda been out of the blog thing too, I go in and out :)
Are you going to Idaho for Thanksgiving? We will have to get together soon, maybe even just a girls night soon?

Your girls are so cute. Love the picture. I agree that clipping coupons can actually be kinda fun! When we were in dental school there was an older man that lived next door to us and he would pick up multiple copies of the Sunday paper with coupons in it and leave them in my mail box for me. Sometimes I hated it cause they would sit around and I would feel guilty for not using them. But when I would actually go through them and go to the store and save a ton of money... That's when it was so fun! I might need to pick up this habit again!

Sine you mentioned Walgreens I figured I'd add a little tip for you. Once a month they have an in store flier that has a section in the middle full of rebates for certain items each month. All you do is enter your rebate information online from your receipt and they'll send you a refund check for what you bought. Nothing like free goodies =)

Hi! I read your comment on Matt's blog, so please tell Brynlee I had a lovely time playing with her, and I can't wait to do it again. Matt's right about Walgreens - some months it's $50 worth of stuff, some months it's not as much. Sometimes it's useful things, like toothpaste and body wash, and sometimes it's more random things. I've been doing it for 3 months now. Other than sales tax, some of those items are 100% free.

In case you're interested, my blog is Call Me the Breeze, linked on Matt's blog. Could you e-mail me your mailing address? I'm about to go on tour again, and I'd like it if I could send Brynlee some postcards. emilymstamm@gmail.com Thanks!

I think the coupon clipping is really catching on with our country's current economic struggles. I don't think it matters who you are, nothing feels better then getting a good deal! Oh, and if you feel bad about a premature Christmas background, just know that my tree is already up! We celebrate as long as we possibly can!

Hey Tiff,
This is so funny. I was reading your posts & thinking "that is totally what I think about that". I just changed my blog to Christmas too & I have had the same attitude about blogging lately. I feel like it takes so much time to blog & with any spare time I just want to sit on the couch & do nothing besides eat cookies. (Not good when I'm trying to lose baby weight BTW.) I haven't checked blogs for awhile so it was fun to see all the updates. Your girls are adorable as ballerinas. It looks like Brynlee's hair is getting longer! Also a comment on the couponing - I have gotten into it since we moved here thanks to a friend also. I have a hard time with the actual coupons, but I really like shopping at CVS where they give you money back on your receipt you can use later. If you have a CVS nearby look into it. I have built up all our non-food storage by doing these deals & just barely had to buy my first box of diapers in 6 months. It is very addicting. Anyway, this is a novel so sorry, but who knows when I will check out blogs again! Can't wait to get together at Christmas! Happy Thanksgiving.

I have never used coupons which is dumb, because I should...maybe I will try those websites. I DO love buying anything on sale...ADrian says, "Em, just because it's on sale does not mean you have to buy it." But I swear I get a high when I find a good deal!
Also, they say that some of the most wealthy people in the world are that way because they are thrifty...or were at one time!Pretty picture of the girls!

Tiff,
You are so dang cute. I can't even stand it. And... I love your girls! They are darling. I love the websites you gave for coupons. I'm getting married next month and I definitely think it'll help save us some money :) Also, a lot of people might know about this site, but I just learned about it. It's called retailmenot.com I've already used it to start getting Christmas gifts! It's filled with coupons to websites. I just used it for something I bought at pacsun.com and found a free shipping coupon and a 25% off. It's great... especially since I love shopping online :)

Hey Tiff! I worked at Dr. Shapiro's office yesterday. They all say hi =) I also got to meet Nate and his wife. They are so sweet. I wish we lived closer to them because I would love to hang out lots more. What a cute wife he has and their son is so fun. She fits right in with the rest of your adorable family. Have a great Thanksgiving!
